Granada, Andalucía

The most impressive sight in Granada is the Alhambra, an immense palace-fortress complex of Moorish origin, which fell to Ferdinand and Isabella in 1492 - the same year Columbus sailed the ocean blue. The legacy of the so-called "Catholic monarchs" is so tied to the conquest of Granada that they were buried in a special chapel situated alongside the Cathedral. Today, Granada is the capital of a province and a bustling commercial center. However, at night it is still possible to capture a bit of its mysterious charm from a climb through the old city, flanked to its east by the cave-like homes of gypsies carved directly into the rocky hillside, and to catch the lights of the Alhambra from the Miradoro de San Nicolás.The Renaissance palace of Carlos V, located within the Alhambra complex. The snow-capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada in the distance. The fortress...The summer palace, or Generalife...The town below. The Cathedral...sorry cameras cannot go inside the Capilla Real
